About Us

The Burlington club is a Branch of the International Taoist Tai Chi Society. The International Taoist Tai Chi Society is the international umbrella organization for the governance of all Taoist Tai Chi Society associations around the world. All associations are incorporated as non-profit organizations and many are also incorporated as charitable organizations.
Branches of the Society are administered almost completely by volunteers, allowing income over expenses to be used in furthering the Society's aims and objectives. The volunteer aspect of the organization provides many opportunities for members to contribute their time and talents for the benefit of others, and often to learn new and valuable skills in the process. The volunteer spirit of the Society extends to instruction in Taoist Tai Chi® internal arts and methods, which is provided by accredited volunteer instructors.

The primary location of the Burlington Branch is 3390 South Service Road in Burlington. Other classes are held at three satellite locations around the city, at Brant Hills Community Centre, Tansley Woods Community Centre and Appleby United Church. (See Classes Page for times and days, maps and addresses ). In addition to these four locations, two qualified instructors teach two classes, Wednesday mornings, at the Burlington Senior Centre on New Street.

When requested, we perform demonstrations of Taoist Tai Chi® internal arts and methods for groups and charities. For instance, our members have perform at the time of registration for the Parkinson's Super Walk in September.

Improve, recover and maintain health

People of all ages can learn the gentle turning and stretching movements of Taoist Tai Chi®, and Taoist Tai Chi® can be adapted to match any level of ability. Whatever one's state of health, Taoist Tai Chi® offers an effective way to maintain, improve, or recover health.
Through these classes, thousands of people have found the gentle movements of Taoist Tai Chi® to be an effective therapy for a wide range of health problems, including poor circulation, high blood pressure, arthritis, back pain, breathing difficulties, and digestive and nervous disorders.
The Branch also offers Health Recovery classes which provides an opportunity for those with significant health problems to improve their health, through a program of focused and intensive practice of Taoist Tai Chi® in a supportive, calm, and healthy environment.

Service in the Community

Members of the Taoist Tai Chi Society - Burlington Branch also contribute many hours of their service in their communities. We have supported relief efforts for major disasters and assisted other charities whenever possible.
The Society has conducted fundraising campaigns for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Parkinson's Foundation.

Trained Volunteer Instructors

In keeping with the aims of the Society, all instructors are volunteers. An accredited instructor must meet the standards set by Master Moy and continually upgrade his or her knowledge through attendance at regular classes and workshops. For the student, being taught by a volunteer means receiving attention that is motivated by enthusiasm and belief in the benefits of the art.
To ensure the same quality of instruction and consistency of purpose at all locations, meetings and workshops are frequently conducted at all levels of the organization. Members enjoy the fact that they can visit or transfer to any Taoist Tai Chi® location and find the same style and quality of instruction, as well as the same friendly atmosphere and charitable orientation.
